Strictly Populist Nonsense and Upcoming Writing Challenges

Am still poorly
Was hoping to be cheered up by Strictly Come Dancing but it was not to be. That show is mental. People dance. Some are good. Some are crap. The judges tell us how it is. Then the public vote and it all goes horribly wrong. The crap people get saved and good ones go out. Dear oh dear oh dear. I seriously think anyone who has phoned in to vote for Kate and Anton should be banned from participating in all general elections ever.
Oh boy, I can’t believe I am getting so bothered about Strictly Come Dancing…
I just don’t like unfairness is all.
On another note. Andrew has talked me into this. I have to write 1667 words every day for a whole month. If I have a nervous breakdown it is his fault.
I have to admit, I voted for Kate and Anton for the simple yet shallow reason that I think Anton Du Beke is quite lovely. I did rue my voting decision when I saw the final two though, I can tell you! It was very unfair. Kate Garraway is beyond bad. I imagine the public like to vote to keep the worst dancer in for amusemenet value (or, possibly, because they can’t bear to see Anton leave), but I can’t imagine this will last much longer. If Anton has to drag her around the floor like a rag doll again she’ll be out!
I’m really getting into this show. I’ve never paid much attention to it before but found myself watching the first show of this series and realised it is such great entertainment for saturday evenings.
Good luck with your writing!
Ha! That’s very funny. Lots of people voted for them and of the ones I’ve spoken to that was always the reason. Everyone wants Anton to win! This is also the first time I have ever watched the show and apparently there’s quite a history of Anton always getting duff partners. I think he’s got quite a following now of people whose main aim in life is to see Anton win Strictly Come Dancing!
I think my problem is I’ve never really watched something like this before and my usual failing is to take things more seriously than they really warant. So I am thinking that each week the best dancers should go through and the worst should be voted out. I can’t quite handle that it will come down to who people fancy, who they think is funny, and who they’re rooting for! I find it bizarre that they put the phone numbers up straight away so that you know the number to call for your favourite couple even before they’ve danced. I said innocently to Andrew “but how do you know who to vote for until you’ve seen them dance?” and he just gave me such a “you really don’t get this do you?” look.
Anyway, it’s good entertainment, I don’t deny that. I will just have to stop looking at it with the eyes of a sociologist or cultural theorist! I like the dancing and the costumes anyway. Those aspects do appeal!
Thanks for your best wishes on the writing. I am a bit scared actually. It’s quite a big thing to take on, especially considering the upheavals likely to take place over the next month. Ah well. Anything to jump start the writing again.
